Jubilee Party has unveiled Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni as its new Deputy Party Leader ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The decision was reached by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) on Thursday, January 22, and formally endorsed by the National Delegates Convention.
Immediately after the endorsement, the party confirmed the appointment of Richard Moitalel Ole Kenta as the new Secretary General, completing Kioni’s transition to the deputy party leadership role. Zack Kinuthia was also appointed Deputy Secretary General.
Jubilee Deputy Party Leader and presidential candidate Fred Matiang’i, while announcing the decision, said the NEC had approved the proposal to bring Ole Kenta into the party’s top administrative office, citing his experience and long-standing ties to Jubilee.
“The NEC decided this morning to approve the proposal and appoint the Hon. Moitalel Ole Kenta as our new Secretary General. Hon Kenta is not new to Kenyan politics and leadership… he bears the history and the roots of this party from the days of TNA.”
Ole Kenta previously served as Narok North Member of Parliament from 2013 to 2022 and later contested the Narok gubernatorial seat in the 2022 General Election on an ODM Party ticket.

He however narrowly lost to Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu and unsuccessfully challenged the election outcome in court, citing alleged irregularities.
Jubilee Party leadership changes
The new changes place Kioni alongside Matiang’i, who was appointed Deputy Party Leader in October 2025. The former Interior Cabinet Secretary remains Jubilee’s presidential flagbearer for the 2027 General Election.
The latest reshuffle follows the resignation of former long-serving Secretary General Raphael Tuju and the political sidelining of Sabina Chege and Kanini Kega, whose brief control of the party during a prolonged leadership dispute was overturned by the courts and nullified through gazettement.
Speaking after a National Executive Committee meeting on October 30, 2025, Kioni, while announcing the resolutions that confirmed Matiang’i as Deputy Party Leader, said the committee had unanimously endorsed him as the face of the party.
“We, as NEC, have appointed Dr. Fred Okeng’o Matiang’i as our deputy party leader going forward,” Kioni said.
Consolidation
Kioni’s elevation comes against the backdrop of prolonged internal turmoil within the former ruling party that began shortly after the 2022 General Election.

Since August 2022, Jubilee has been gripped by a factional power struggle that culminated in a High Court ruling in mid-2025 validating the May 2023 National Delegates Convention.
Following the ruling, the Registrar of Political Parties formally recognized the faction loyal to former President Uhuru Kenyatta, restoring the party’s original leadership structure and ending the dispute with a rival faction led by Chege and Kega.
