Likewise, those with less than 99 marks were 2,060, accounting for 0.15 per cent of the lot.
Notably the cohort will be the last to learn under the 8-4-4 education curriculum as the education sector transitions to the Competence Based Curriculum.
According to the Principal Secretary for Basic Education Dr Belio Kipsang 26million Kenyans have sat KCPE since its inception in 1986.
Further adding that they constitute 70% of the adult population in the country.
How to check Form One Placement
During the release of the placement results, CS Machogu said parents and students can access the admission results online.
“KCPE 2023 Form One admission results can be accessed by visiting education.go.ke. or kemis.education.go.ke,” stated the Ministry of Education.
In addition, the CS clarified that the County Education Board (CEB) has no power to approve school fees outside the one the Ministry has stipulated.
“The Constitution obligate the government to provide free and compulsory education, additional levies deny children of poor parents access to education,” said Machogu.
Examination Court Cases
Worth noting, the placement took place under a cloud of errors and calls for remarking of the national test.
However, Education CS had earlier downplayed the scale of the inconsistencies when he appeared before the National Assembly’s Education Committee.

At the time, Godfrey Ombogo, assistant director of communication at Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC), while declining to comment on the court cases, maintained the placement exercise will go on.
“We cannot comment on the cases still pending in court but as it stands, the report presented to Parliament we detailed the cases had been handled but just a few still pending,” said Ombogo.
