First Lady Rachel Ruto on Monday, June 10 surprised Butere Girls High School in Kakamega with Ksh. 500,000.
Mama Rachel issued Ksh 300, 000 for the students, Ksh 100,000 for the teachers and Ksh 100,000 to the Support staff of the school.

The first lady issued the donations while attending the Launch of the Jitume Digital Hub in Butere Girls High school.
She noted that 100,000km of high-speed fiber optic infrastructure will be installed to provide internet to all schools, government institutions and offices, health facilities, businesses, homes hospitals and public spaces.

“The government plans to establish internet hotspots to serve innovators, youth and entrepreneurs as well as 1,450 ward-based digital hubs for citizen digital literacy training, film production and public access to government services,” she said.

She further lauded the Information and Communication (ICT) CS Eliud Owalo for the implementation of Jitume Digital hub with Butere Girls being the 83rd digital hub in Kenya.

“The Jitume Project implemented by CS Owalo has seen over 28,000 users connected, over 8,700 courses enrolled, and 118 digital job platforms connected,” she said.

“The full implementation of the Jitume Digital Project will spur a wave of job across our nation as the President says Finya Computer Upate Dollar.”
The first Lady said the hub will provide the students with relevant skills that will prepare them for Digital Kenya they will encounter after they finish school and spare their parents’ resources on computer course fees.
“This project will encourage the students here in Butere Girls to be diligent in pursuant to their education such as those focusing on science, technology, engineering and Mathematics and any all-other course key to a Nation’s economic prosperity,” Rachel Ruto added.

“As the country gears toward the 4th Industrial revolution, we will need to be agile enough to ensure we take advantage of the emerging opportunities. We now leave in Generative Artificial Intelligence where technology enables our work and spurs efficiency, we need to be ready for this new era.”
Rachel Ruto revealed that going back to Butere every time is very nostalgic to her because she joined the school as a young girl at the age of 13 years in 1982 finished in 1985 and came back for A levels in 1987 before joining Kenyatta University.
