A specially elected Member of the Nyandarua County Assembly and a longtime advocate for women in leadership, Beth Wahito, has died following a tragic accident on the Nairobi-Nakuru Road.
The news of her sudden passing was confirmed on June 22 by Assembly Speaker Wachira Waiganjo, who expressed deep sorrow on behalf of the Assembly.
Beth Wahito, who hailed from Njabini Kibu ru Ward, was described as a courageous and principled leader whose political journey spanned more than 30 years.
Speaker Wahito eulogized her as a leader who entered public service at a time when few women held positions of influence, first serving as a councillor in the defunct Nyandarua County Council, and later as a specially elected MCA in the First and Third County Assemblies.

“Wahito was not afraid to speak up for what she believed was right,” Speaker Waiganjo said. “She worked tirelessly to uplift the lives of the underserved in her community.”
Career of Beth Wahito
Her political path saw her take on key roles across various parties, including as Chairperson of NARC-Kenya in Nyandarua and, more recently, as Kinangop Constituency Coordinator for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
She was also an active member of the County Assemblies Forum Governing Council, where she chaired the Women Caucus-Nyandarua Chapter.
In the Assembly, Wahito served as Vice-Chairperson of the Health Services Committee.
She was also a member of Public Works, Roads, Transport, Housing and Energy Members’ Welfare, Catering and Library and the Special Funds Accounts Committee.

Known not only for her political grit but also for her nurturing spirit, Wahito was a mother, grandmother, and a mentor to many in her community.
“We honor Wahito’s life of service and her unmatched courage,” Waiganjo added. “Her warmth, bold spirit, and fearless commitment to public service will remain etched in our hearts.”
