Nairobi – Nakuru Highway Jam: KeNHA Gives Alternative Routes

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a travel advisory for motorists using the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway following heavy traffic witnessed on December 20. The Authority also gave alternative routes for motorists to consider.

In a statement on December 20, KeNHA said it has observed a surge in traffic volumes along the Rironi – Naivasha – Nakuru (A8) Road and the Rironi – Mai Mahiu – Naivasha (A8S) Road.

“Motorists plying these routes are advised to exercise patience and observe lane discipline for their safety and that of other road users,” KENHA said.

The Authority said it is working with the traffic police to give the necessary guidance and traffic control for a smooth flow in a bid to ensure you reach your destinations safely and without delays.

Plea to Ruto

Reports show that the travelers stranded overnight on the Highway after a truck overturned on Thursday night, December 19, causing a massive traffic jam.

Motorists suing the road have asked President William Ruto to expand the highway especially the area around Maimahiu.

One motorist said passengers are likely to spend the Friday night in their vehicles stating that they haven’t moved since Thursday 6pm.

“The traffic has been terrible, so terrible. We haven’t moved since Thursday at 6pm. We are asking the government to expand this road here at Maimahiu; it’s too narrow,” said a motorist.
