The Selection Panel for the Recruitment of nominees for appointments for the position of chairperson and member of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has published the names of applicants.
In a notice dated March 6, the Panel announced that is has 37 candidates applied for the position of chairperson and 1,319` for the position of members of the Commission.

The Panel also published 91 names of applicants who submitted documents but failed to indicate and reference the position applied for as provided in the advertisement.
Among the notable applicants for the chairperson position include former Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Anne Amadi.

Amadi served as the Judiciary registrar from January 13, 2014, to January 12, 2024.
Former IEBC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) James Oswago also applied for the position of chairperson.

Oswago served as IEBC CEO from 2009 to 2013 when his tenure ended following allegations of corruption related to the procurement of electronic voter identification devices for the 2013 general election.
In October 2024, the High Court upheld his conviction and four-year sentence of Oswago for culpability in the irregular award of a Ksh1.3 billion tender.
Other big names include Joy Brenda Masinde-Mdivo.
She is the chairperson of Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) Board of Directors.
Joy is the daughter of Bishop J.B. Masinde, the founder and Senior Pastor of Deliverance Church International – Umoja in Nairobi, Kenya.
EACJ judge Charles Ayieko Nyachae also applies for the IEBC chair position.
He is the son of Former FORD People Party Leader and powerful Cabinet Minister Simeon Nyachae.

Other Applicants
Other notable names include human rights activist and lawyer Francis Kakai Kissinger and Duncan Oburu Ojwang.
The other applicants include Abdulqadir Lorot Ramadhan, Calistus Wekesa Waswa, Cedrick Ogoro Mukhwana, Choge Rollince, Chrisphine Otieno Owiye and Edward Katama Ngeywa.
The list also includes Erastus Edung Ethekon, Fred Khaemba Masungu, Isaac Mutie Mutua, Jackson Angortum, Jacob Ngwele Muvengei, Josiah Onyancha and Justry Patrick Lumumba Nyaberi.
Others are Kadhua Jimmy Kahindi, Kenneth Kiplimo Kemboi, Kibet Victor, Lilian Wanjiku Manegene, Nelly Peris Ashubwe, Patrick Omutia Otuliia and Peterkin Nyongesa.
The following candidates also applies: Samson Ouma Ogada, Samuel Kariuki Kiragu, Samuel Osewe Ochillo, Saul Simiyu Wasilwa, Thomas Maosa Nyakambi, Vincent Omondi Oluoch, Walubengo Waningilo, William Otieno Oketch, Wilson Wambungu Maina, Wyclife Kiprotich Kiprono Bonnke and Yvonne Mercy Olaka.

IEBC Selection Panel Notes
Dr. Nelson Makanda, the Panel’s Chairperson said the Selection Panel had received 1848 applications by hand delivery, post and email at the close of the application period.
The Selection Panel collated the applications and found that 211 applicants sent multiple applications 91 applicants failed to indicate and reference the positions applied for as provided in the advertisement; and 14 sent applications for positions not advertised.
Further, 176 applicants sent replies to the automated response received after sending in their applications through email.
Makanda stated that the total number of applications received is, therefore 1356.
“The names and detailed qualifications of all the applicants for the positions of Chairperson and Member of the IEBC are available on the website of the Parliamentary Service Commission, www.parliament. go.ke and the Kenya Gazette,” he said.
