Renowned KBC journalist Festus Amimo has passed away.
The KBC journalist who served as the Head of KBC Dholuo – Mayienga Radio died in the early morning of Sunday, December 7, 2025.
His death was announced by Mayienga FM radio station through their social media pages. Festus Amimo reportedly collapsed in his house in the morning as he prepared to go to work.
Following his death, several Kenyans have paid tribute to the journalist.
Interior PS Raymond Omollo described him as a person who served with great dedication.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of my friend, Festus Amimo.
Festus was a warm soul, a steady presence, and a true friend whose kindness and humility touched everyone around him.”
Until his passing, he served with great dedication as the Head of KBC Dholuo – Mayienga Radio and Chair of the Luo Journalists Association, where his leadership and passion for storytelling shaped countless voices and strengthened the profession,” Omolo said.
Kenyans Mourn Festus Amimo
ODM Communications Director Philip Etale mourned Amimo’s passing, describing it as a deeply painful loss to his family, colleagues, and the media fraternity.
“Bro, your sudden death this morning has come as a shocker. Yesterday you were alive and full of live as you have always been. So cheerful and full of hope for better today, then all of a sudden… you are gone. Omwami Festus Amimo WA, this is very devastating news to me and all who knew you. To your family, fans, colleagues at the BH (KBC) and friends, I can only say, we have lost big,” Etale said.

Siaya Governor James Orengo mourned the late Festus Amimo, describing him as a calm, insightful, and exceptionally talented journalist.
“Deeply saddened by the passing of Festus Amimo of Mayienga Radio. A calm, collected, and truly gifted soul whose loss is a heavy blow to the entire media fraternity. Your sessions on air were exceptional, marked by grace, depth, and unwavering respect for every guest who sat across from you.
Shine on your path, my good friend, Wuod Awasi. Your voice and spirit will be dearly missed,” said Orengo.
Another user, Edy Illah, said, “Shocked to learn of the sudden passing of journalist Festus Amimo WA. Death is truly cruel. The last time I met Jafuambo was in October during the burial of Baba in Bondo. Rest in peace, wuod Awasi. A very jovial man and a friend to everyone.”
Kirungu Jackson, on his part, said, “Amimo wasn’t even sick. He was on leave this December, but unfortunately, he has decided to extend his leave forever. Litna ndii. Rest in peace, Wendo Odi Festus Amimo Wuod Awasi.”

Festus Amimo served as the Head of KBC Dholuo – Mayienga Radio (Mayienga FM), the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation’s station broadcasting in the Luo language.
He was a veteran radio presenter known for his powerful morning shows and engaging conversations, having been behind the microphone for over 15 years.

He was also the Chairperson/Chair of the Luo Journalists Association.
Festus was a respected figure in the Kenyan media landscape, where his leadership and passion for storytelling shaped many voices in the profession.
In 2022, he had indicated plans to vie for the Nyando parliamentary seat, though he remained a journalist until his passing.
