Veteran Royal Media Services (RMS) journalist, political commentator and scholar Prof. Ngugi Njoroge is dead.
Prof. Ngugi was a host at Inooro FM’s late night “Keera show” with Nderitu Wa Ihura.
His colleagues at Inooro FM and the RMS stated that Ngugi died on Monday morning at his home.
Inooro FM confirmed his death stating, “It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Prof Ngugi Njoroge from Keera Show.”
Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua who confirmed the death mourned Ngungi describing him as a prolific political commentator with insightful discussions on development discourse of the country.
“I had the privilege of being hosted by Prof Njoroge on this informative show; we enjoyed quality discussions, as was his characteristic. Indeed, he redefined the role of the media in driving development. Prof. Njoroge was profusely humorous, warm, and charming,” Gachagua said.
Colleagues Mourn Ngugi Njoroge
While sending his condolences to family and friends, Gachagua said the journalist’s nuggets of wisdom will be immensely missed.
“Heartfelt condolences to Professor Njoroge’s family, colleagues at the Royal Media Services and Inooro TV, friends and relatives for this big loss. May his Soul Rest in Peace,” said the DP.
Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura mourned Ngugi saying, “Rest well Prof Ngugi Wa Njoroge of Inooro FM. Ngihuunga icuri. A great connoisseur of local knowledge and history!”

His colleagues and friends mourned the professor as a great expert in local knowledge and history who was dedicated to his work at Inooro.
“Rest in peace my friend and Colleague Professor Ngugi Njoroge. My condolences to family, relatives, colleagues, friends, Media fraternity and those who knew Professor Ngugi wa Njoroge. Shine on your way Prof.Ngugi ,” Inooro FM presenter Mùturi Wa Mùirù said.
His deaths come two days after Radio Thome FM journalists died in a road accident on the Sagana-Makutano road in Kirinyaga County.
Journalists Stephen Waigwa and Caroline Nyarwai met their untimely death while traveling from the station’s four-year anniversary.

Journalists Who Have Died in 2024
Ngugi joins the long list of journalists and media personalities who have died since the beginning of the year.
Among them is the late NTV journalist Rita Tinina, who was found dead at her home in Kileleshwa, Nairobi, on March 17, 2024.
The Star newspaper journalist Dickens Wasonga died on January 26, 2024, while former Nation editor and business journalist Washington Akumu died on April 22, 2024.
Media personality MC Njambi ‘Jahmby’ Koikai died on June 3, 2024, just a month after The Standard Group journalist Shadrack Mitty died on May 29, 2024. Baraka FM broadcaster Sam Makenda also died on May 16 while receiving treatment at Machakos Hospital.
