Ruto Gives Ksh15K Each for People to Vacate Land

President William Ruto has given Ksh15,000 each to businessmen at Luanda Market in Vihiga county.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Luanda Modern Market, in Vihiga County, Ruto said that the money would help the traders start afresh.

Further, he issued a directive to the governor to ensure that the sum of Ksh3 million he would give, would be distributed to every individual.

200 vendors who were stationed at the market were forced to remove their stands and property to pave way for the construction of the new market.

“Because of your loyalty, to all the businessmen here, I am giving you Ksh3 million to restore all the property you have lost. I have been told that there are 200 of you, each of you will get Ksh15,000 each.”

“This will help all the businessmen and women who were here, to start afresh. I want to ask the governor to make sure that every person gets that money,” said the President.

Ruto Makes Additional Promises

Additionally, the head of state announced that he had given out Ksh365 million to the county government for the construction of the market.

Also, Ruto promised that the construction of the modern market could be completed by December 2025, adding that he wanted to come back and launch it. 

“And I will make sure that the construction of this market, will begin today. I have also told the minister in charge that I will come back to this market before the end of the year to officially launch it and allow you to continue with business,

“I don’t know how you will do it. If you have to then you will work day and night. I do not want to waste these people’s time,” said Ruto.

He also laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Khwisero Mother-Child Level IV Hospital in Kakamega County.

The Ambitious Plan for Construction of Market

The government plans to construct 400 modern markets across the country to strengthen the agricultural sector.

Further, the move is expected to drive economic growth in rural and urban areas.

“Through these markets, farmers will access a larger pool of traders,” stated the head of state.

Luanda Modern Market in Vihiga County is expected to accommodate more than 2,000 traders.

Another four such markets will be constructed in the County, offering businesses access to advanced storage facilities to reduce post-harvest losses.
