Riara Springs Academy student Michael Warutere has topped the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams scoring 428 marks out of the possible 500 marks.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, November 23, after the official release of the exams by the Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, Warutere expressed his joy for the feat.
Further, he noted that he was not expecting the marks adding that the news came as a surprise.
“I was woken up and I found out that I scored 428. I did not believe what my parents were saying until I saw the marks. I was not expecting this at all,” he stated.
Additionally, he noted that he hoped to score 410 marks but was grateful all together that God had helped through the challenging examinations.
“God has helped me, and I know God can help the other students who will be sitting for the CPC exams,” he added.

Warutere Speaks on KCPE Exams and Future Plans
At the same time Warutere revealed that he was hoping to join Mang’u High School in January 2024 to begin secondary education.
Also, he stated that he would love to pursue Software Engineering as a course after high school adding that he has a passion for technology.
“I want to join Mang’u High School and I want to become a Sofware Engineer God willing so that I can help Kenyan farmers use technology to improve their agricultural productivity,” he stated.
On the exams, the top KCPE student stated that it was challenging but he was hopeful that he would record a good performance.
“I feel ecstatic because I never expected this to happen. The exams were kind of tricky but in the end, God helped me.
I scored 90 marks in Mathematics, 89 in English, 85 in Kiswahili and Social Studies and 75 marks in Science,” he added.

Warutere on His Previous Primary School Performances
On the other hand, the student indicated that he had been posting great performances through his primary school education scoring between 400 and 420 marks in his exams.
However, he admitted that it the end his results had gone down and it was therefore a shock for him to emerge as the top student.
Warutere also stated that he had believed that top students could only come from public schools and was happy to believe that even private school students were taking the position.
Riara Springs administration noted that they had 150 students who sat for the national exams and already 29 of them had recorded A grades in the exams.
