Absa Bank Kenya has appointed four women to key leadership positions in line with the company’s resolve to advance gender diversity in corporate leadership.
With these appointments, the bank has achieved over 47 percent gender representation in senior leadership.

Further, the newly appointed executives bring a wealth of experience and expertise across various sectors, strengthening Absa’s leadership team.
“These appointments reflect more than just a milestone in gender representation, they underscore Absa’s deliberate focus on building an inclusive, forward-thinking leadership team that mirrors the diversity of its stakeholders,” notes the bank.

New Absa Kenya Female Leadership
Mwihaki Wachira has been appointed the new Director of Marketing and Corporate Affairs where she will be tasked with driving the bank’s brand, marketing, and communications strategy.

Under her leadership, the bank is expected to improve engagement with customers and stakeholders.
At the same time, Absa has appointed Elizabeth Munga as the new Head of Strategy.
She will oversee the implementation of Absa’s long-term growth agenda, ensuring strategic alignment with business priorities.
Additionally, Sophia Abdi Hassan is the new Country Treasurer. In her new role, Sophia will be tasked to manage treasury operations and financial risk, playing a crucial role in safeguarding the bank’s financial resilience.
Anne Nyongesa, who is taking up the position of Company Secretary, will spearhead corporate governance and regulatory compliance, reinforcing the bank’s adherence to the highest ethical standards.
Commenting on the appointments, Abdi Mohamed, CEO and Managing Director of Absa Bank, Abdi Mohamed stated.

The Bank Poaches Anne Nyongesa
Nyongesa joined the company after leaving KCB Bank Group where she served as the Head of Counsel, Governance. She succeeded Wilson Murage, who left the company to pursue other career opportunities.
Prior to joining Absa Kenya, Nyongesa held various legal, governance and company secretary positions in the financial services sector.
