Afya Sacco Society Limited (Afya Sacco) is a licensed deposit-taking Sacco established on May 8, 1971, to serve as the primary cooperative for health workers in Kenya.
Founded by 20 promoters, the Sacco was created to encourage savings among its members and provide access to affordable credit, promoting financial stability and empowerment.
The Sacco’s core mission is to enhance the socio-economic well-being of its members by offering affordable, high-quality financial services grounded in cooperative principles.
Over the years, Afya Sacco has grown into a tier-one SACCO with an asset base of approximately Ksh20 billion.
The Sacco operates its headquarters at the iconic green Afya Centre Building along Tom Mboya Street.
It runs ten Front Office Service Activities (FOSAS) across Kenya, including Nairobi (CBD), Kenyatta National Hospital, Nyeri, Meru, Nakuru, Kisii, Kisumu, Eldoret, Kakamega, and Mombasa.
Its operating model ensures that all primary services are delivered at the FOSAs, while over 300 service branches extend reach to areas without a physical presence.
The governance structure comprises nine elected Board Directors and three members of the Supervisory Committee, all chosen by delegates during the Annual Delegates Conference (ADC).
Membership
The Sacco membership is open to all Kenyans, both locally and abroad. It admits eligible individuals, groups, and businesses/institutions upon fulfillment of membership requirements.
Its membership is drawn predominantly from the health sector and the wider business community.
Membership is voluntary and open to all within the accepted common bond of association who can make use of its services and are willing to abide by the Sacco By-laws.
Upon admission, a member is issued a membership number for reference, and three mandatory accounts are automatically opened for them.
