Top Kenyan Lawyer and advocate of the High Court, Kathryne Maundu has been hired by NCBA bank as its company secretary.
This is weeks after she quit jobs as company secretary in four companies listed on the Nairobi securities Exchange (NSE), including Safaricom, BAT Kenya, East African Breweries and Eaagads Limited.
“It gives me great pleasure to officially welcome Kathryne Maundu who joins as the group company secretary, subject to regulatory approvals, “NCBA CEO, John Gachora noted.
Kathryne’s JourneyÂ
In 2016, Kathryne joined telecommunications company, Safaricom, as the company secretary.
However, she resigned from Safaricom on September 29, 2023.
Further, on June 27, 2020, the Board of Directors at British American Tobacco (BAT) Kenya appointed the lawyer as the firm’s company secretary.
Consequently, she quit the job in October 2023.
Other jobs that she quit in October include her company secretary position at Eaagads Limited and East African Breweries Limited.
According to the Kenya Law, a company secretary means a certified public secretary.
Additionally, a company Secretary’s functions include recording and keeping minutes of all proceedings at meetings of the directors and the shareholders.

Furthermore, the company secretary is required to maintain the respective registers of the directors, shareholders and the shareholders.
Consequently, maintaining a register of the directors’ residential addresses and of debenture holders is among the functions of the company secretary.
Lawyer Kathryne Maundu’s Impressive Resume
Kathryne Maundu is an expert in Corporate Governance within the East Africa region and has been instrumental in advising the boards of leading corporates for the last 19 years.
Notably, up until October 31, she worked with Bowmans Stamford Corporate Services LLP.
In Bowmans Stamford, she served as the Partner responsible for the discharge of the statutory and corporate governance mandate of company secretaries to entities in diverse sectors.

Prior to this, Kathryne worked with Deloitte in the East African countries of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
As part of her role as company secretary, Kathryne has been involved in providing support at board and general meetings, facilitating communication between Boards members, Shareholders and Management.
She has also been pivotal in assisting Boards to establish good corporate governance structures and develop policies and charters to support these structures
Impressively, the lawyer has been named as one of the Top 40 under 40 Women in Kenya 2018.
Additionally, she is currently pursuing her LLM in Corporate and Commercial Law with the University of London, Queen Mary College.Â
