Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko returns to the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court from February 3 to 5, 2026.
The ex-governor will appear in court for the hearing of a case in which he is accused of a conflict of interest in awarding a Nairobi County revenue collection tender during his tenure at City Hall.
Separately, the current Kiambu Governor, Paul Kimani Wamatangi, is expected to appear for a mention on February 4, 2026, in the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission’s (EACC) high-stakes civil suit seeking to recover over Ksh813 million allegedly derived from corruption.
The EACC claimed that the funds were from manipulated road-construction tenders influenced by Wamatangi in his earlier role as the Senate Roads Committee Chairperson, between 2017 and 2022, during which companies linked to him and his family benefited.
The High Court froze multiple bank accounts linked to Wamatangi, including those of his family and related entities, pending the case, to prevent the dissipation of funds.
Mike Sonko case
The current mention concerns the award and management of electronic revenue collection services for the Nairobi County Government, where he is accused of a conflict of interest for indirectly benefiting from and influencing the awarding and continuation of revenue collection tenders.

In connected cases, he faced multiple counts, including abuse of office and conspiracy with Prosecutors, alleging improper involvement in tenders in which payments flowed irregularly, with claims of kickbacks or undue influence.
Witnesses, including former county officials, testified about offers of daily bribes to secure and maintain the revenue tender. Sonko’s defense argued that his administration rejected renewals of legacy contracts and instead pushed for transparent, modernized systems.
Wamatangi woes
In April 2025, EACC conducted early-morning raids at multiple locations, including Wamatangi’s home, targeting him and senior Kiambu County officials over alleged fraudulent dealings and procurement irregularities worth up to Ksh1.5 billion.

The anti-corruption officers recovered Ksh12 million in Kenyan currency and USD 13,000 (about Ksh1.7 million) from the governor’s residence, suspected to be proceeds of corruption.
Other allegations tied to Wamatangi include conflict of interest, abuse of office, trading with the county government, fictitious supplies, and dubious payments through irregular procurement plans.
