More than 15 families in Kiptorit village, located in Sacho Ward of Baringo Central Sub-County, have been forced to evacuate their homes after deep cracks appeared in the ground overnight.
This alarming development followed tremors that shook the village on Saturday, August 17, causing significant damage to residences and raising fears among the local population.
Witnesses reported that the fissures appeared abruptly, with some measuring alarming depths that extend from the main road in Sigowo, a region notorious for landslides.
Disturbingly, many of these expanding cracks are filled with brown water, prompting residents to worry about the safety of their environment.
In response to the escalating threat, some families have already fled to seek refuge elsewhere.
Kiptorit Residents Appeal to County Govt for Help
Residents are urgently calling for intervention from the county government’s disaster management team to assess the situation and provide further assistance.
They are deeply concerned that without immediate action, the cracks could worsen, leading to further destruction and even loss of life.
Baringo County is known to be prone to landslides, with similar incidents having occurred in the past, highlighting the need for a long-term solution to mitigate the risks posed by the unstable terrain.
