Machakos County Hyena Attacks

Muthwani residents in Machakos County are asking the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to put up an electric fence to end wildlife invasion into the area.

According to the locals, wild animals are attacking their children, animals and destroying their food crops. Moreover, the latest attack happened this week where a toddler and a 13-year-old, were attacked by a hyena.

The 13-year-old who is currently receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital was attacked on his way back home from the shop. Also, the toddler was admitted at Machakos Level Five Hospital.

Nevertheless, it is not the first time inhabitants of Muthwani  in Machakos County are facing the issue of hyena attacks and other wild animals. They have further accused KWS of taking long to respond to their pleas for help.

Moreover, to add on the unfortunate wild animal attacks, one of the residents while speaking to citizen digital, reported that a mother had been attacked while attempting to save her child from a hyena.

Furthermore, the woman’s face was damaged by the animal beyond recognition, even though villagers rescued her and her child before rushing her to the nearest hospital.

The villagers now ask teachers to allow their children report to school from 7am and be back home before dark, for their safety.
