The Nairobi and Sewerage Company (NWSC) Water has announced a temporary water supply interruption affecting several areas across Nairobi City County due to a major pipeline leak in Kiambu County.
In a notice on Friday, June 26, Nairobi Water said the disruption was caused by a major leak on the NCT Fresh Water Pipeline at Riabai, near Kirigiti, which forced the temporary shutdown of the Kigoro-Gigiri pipeline for urgent repairs.
“We wish to notify our customers of a temporary water supply interruption affecting several residential and commercial areas within Nairobi City County. The interruption is due to a major leakage detected on the NCT Fresh Water Pipeline at Riabai, near Kirigiti, in Kiambu County,” the notice read.

The interruption will affect customers in Westlands, Lavington, Kilimani, Upperhill, Ngong Road, Madaraka, Langata, Kibera, Karen, Uthiru, Kawangware, Kangemi, Ruai, Ngundu, Kamulu, as well as areas served by MAVWASCO and Oloolaiser Water Company.
The company said affected areas will experience low water pressure or complete water supply interruption until repairs are completed.
According to Nairobi Water, water supply is expected to resume progressively from 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, once the repair works are concluded.
The utility has urged residents and businesses in the affected areas to store sufficient water for domestic and commercial use during the interruption.
Customers with inquiries have been advised to contact the company’s toll-free customer care line on 0800 724 366, available daily from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

On June 26, Nairobi Water began relocating the Magadi Road water pipeline following a major burst that disrupted supply and exposed maintenance challenges along the busy road.
The utility said the ongoing works are being carried out by its Lang’ata Region team and affect the pipeline serving Lang’ata, Karen, and the Multimedia University area.
According to Nairobi Water, the relocation became necessary after a recent major pipeline burst revealed that repairs were difficult because the water line runs through the middle of Magadi Road.

The company said moving the pipeline will make future maintenance easier and help prevent similar service disruptions.
As the relocation works continue, residents in affected areas have been advised to request water bowsers through the utility’s USSD service by dialing *260# and selecting Option 5 – Bowser Services.
“The relocation follows a recent major pipeline burst making repairs difficult since the line runs through the middle of the road. This shift will ensure easier long-term maintenance and prevent future service disruptions,” read part of the statement.
