Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly (MCA) Robert Alai on Thursday, August 3 called out the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) asking them to call off officers poking Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja’s City Hall offices.
“Can you please control your officers who have turned into serious extortionists around City Hall,” Alai claimed.
The MCA’s sentiments came after the DCI launched investigations following claims that millions of taxpayers’ money may have been paid to nine companies which did not supply anything to Nairobi County.
Through his social media account, Alai, who noted that he is member of Public Accounts Committee, said the claims were fictious.
“I am an elected MCA and. I have also engaged the auditors from OAG and internal ones to see if the claims had some validity. None of the claims is true. No payments were made to the said companies, let alone for the supply of air,” Alai stated.

Moreover, Alai alleged that the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) regime auctioned county properties and engaged in payments for goods and services never requisitioned, procured, or delivered.
According to him, the accusations against the Nairobi County government are a product of individuals behind the NMS scandals who are targeting innocent employees in the county working to streamline things.
Alai Defends Sakaja
Robert Alai went ahead to defend Governor Sakaja’s administration, saying the governor is on the verge of making the county better.
“If money is lost, I will be the first one to throw stones. Governor Sakaja might not be perfect, but I can tell you that he is trying to make the county better,” he explained.
Similarly, Alai listed Sakaja’s achievement in under one year in office including receiving bursaries 3 times for ward residents instead of once, the new ICU and renal unit at Mama Lucy Hospital, and the Neo-natal ICU at Mbagathi Hospital.
He also mentioned the drugs procured from KEMSA and almost Ksh300 million debt paid as well as the recently launched school feeding program for the 17 sub-counties in Nairobi.
Furthermore, Alai opined that the claims come from some powerful yet corrupt employees struggling to work under the new leadership that is keen on monitoring everything.
He called on President William Ruto to order the DCI to stop what he terms as a ‘Witch-Hunt’.
DCI Investigations
Through a letter to the Nairobi County Government acting Secretary Patrick Analo, the DCI asked for supporting documents for the services that the nine companies in question supplied.

“This office is investigating a case of suspected Money laundering whereby Nairobi County Government is alleged to have fraudulently made payments to the companies where services were not rendered,” The letter dated July 21, 2023, reads in part.
In addition, the nine companies said to have received money without supplying anything include Larsen Investment Company, Burasha General Supplies Limited, Tweem Limited and Future Link Limited.
Others are Cloud Mobile Technologies Limited, AR Pharmaceuticals Limited, Instabul Investment Limited, Ramecon Engineering Limited and Brigit West Limited.
As such, the DCI officers have made numerous trips to City Hall offices since early this week, questioning clerks at the legal finance departments.
They also carried away several important documents from the county government to aid in their investigation.
