A man was on Monday buried alive while digging a pit latrine in Nandi County.
The 30-year-old man was among a team of three men that were contracted to dig a latrine at Jean Marie Secondary school.
Reports indicate that the man identified as Joseph was trapped after the walls of the pit collapsed on him
The incident happened on Monday while inside at around 2:00 pm.
According to Nicholas Odungo, who was part of the team the incident happened as they were finalizing their work.
His colleagues say they left the father of three working while the proceeded for lunch
As they resumed work and were preparing to start pulling soil out of the pit, the walls caved in
At the time of the collapse the pit was at 30 feet deep.
Efforts to rescue him from the rubble were still going on Tuesday morning as residents desperately tried to dig through the rabble.
Residents blamed the county government of Nandi for the slow emergency disaster response.
