Police attached to Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have re-arrested Stanley Cheruiyot, a notorious criminal who escaped from a hospital in Nakuru.
Stanley Cheruiyot, convicted on defilement charges, escaped from Nakuru Level 5 Hospital while awaiting surgery for a dislocated arm.
In a statement on June 4, DCI confirmed the arrest, and expressed gratitude to Molo residents who assisted in the operation.
“A man convicted of defilement and serving a life sentence at the Nakuru GK prison is back to his dreaded home just a day after a daring escape, thanks to Molo town dwellers who gave him away like an offering,” the statement read.
According to DCI, members of the public were alarmed by a man who appeared suspicious.
They were particularly concerned because he had handcuffs but did not look like an officer.
“But Cheruiyot’s taste of liberty was short-lived as he was arrested later in the evening at Keep left area of Molo in Nakuru County, after members of the public sighted a man who by no means looked like a police officer with a pair of handcuffs tucked at the waist, 3 o’clock position,” DCI said.
Upon receiving a tip- off from the public, law enforcement officers took immediate action.
The 29-year-old has since been returned to the prison where he awaits arraignment on charges of escaping from lawful custody.

“On getting the information, officers from Molo Sub-County swiftly arrested the suspect, and from him recovered the cuffs, an itel phone (mulika mwizi) a pair of inmates’ uniform and the County hospital records from his backpack,” the statement read.
Stanley Cheruiyot’s Escape
Stanley Cheruiyot was serving a life sentence at Nakuru GK Prison on defilement charges.
However, he escaped from Nakuru level five hospital on the morning of Monday June 3, 2024 while being processed for surgery.
“While being processed for the operation Monday morning, the malefactor managed to master the cuffs tied to his hospital bed, vanishing into thin air to the bewilderment of his keepers,” DCI said.

According to DCI, the circumstances that led to Stanley dislocating his arm to the point of requiring a surgery are still unclear.
However, they emphasized that they were looking into the matter and leaving no stone unturned.
“It remains unclear how Stanley Cheruiyot got his arm dislocated so bad to require an urgent operation at the Nakuru Level 5 hospital, but after the escape, prison wardens who are probing the matter aren’t overlooking the possibility him having arm-twisted himself to obtain a ticket out of the high walls,” the statement read.
The arrest came days after an incident where a murder suspect reportedly escaped from a police custody in Kirinyaga County.
Residents in the area staged protests at the Kiamaciri Police Station in Mwea in expression of their rage after the suspect who was accused of killing a woman escaped under mysterious circumstances on May 31.
