Comedian David Oyando alias Mulamwah has reacted to online accusations of deliberately projecting an image of poverty.
The uproar erupted on January 10 when he shared a video and snapshots of his modest dwelling on his social media channel, sparking mixed reactions.
Pictures depicted him and his pregnant wife, Ruth seated on separate wooden beds in a sparsely furnished mud house with aging walls, a dated 14-inch TV, and clothes strewn across a wooden table.
Despite possessing a grand multi-floor home valued at over sh10 million, the comedian insisted this modest dwelling was his reality, urging Kenyans not to perceive it as pretense.
The accusations of capitalizing on poverty led to sharp criticism, with one netizen accusing him of glorifying poverty.
Mulamwah Reacts to Online Attacks.
However, he fearlessly defended himself across various platforms, expressing displeasure with the attacks.
In a response he retorted, “If only you knew how much money it’s bringing. Our multi-hundred house, multimillion, tunapost soon. Always be real, usiogope kuchekwa na mtu, be proud of home.”
On X, he unleashed a harsh critique, questioning those bothered by his display, stating, “Sasa mtu asipost kwao?” Loosely translating to ‘Can’t someone be allowed to post his home?’
In a bold move, Mulamwah showcased his shoes and car in a video, vehemently rejecting claims of glorifying poverty.
He emphasized the importance of authenticity, proudly displaying new clothes and debunking stereotypes associated with perceived poverty.

Explaining the ownership of a car, he clarified, “Hapa vile mnanicheki hapa hii gari ni ya mboch wetu. Tumempatia aende agift mboch wake. That’s how we live mazee.
Instagram haitaki ati unajifanya unateseka. Wewe tesa manzee. Huku hatuglorify poverty mazee. What is poverty mazee. Iko hata kwa dictionary kweli.”
The content creator unapologetic response showcased his resilience against accusations and his commitment to dispelling stereotypes surrounding his lifestyle.
