During an interview on the Afrobeats Podcast, Bien-Aime Baraza, a Kenyan Afro-pop group Sauti Sol member, shared the key to the group’s longevity and continued relevance over the past decade.
According to Bien-Aime, the secret to their success has been their strong brotherhood, which has helped them navigate challenges. He added that therapy has also played a crucial role in their journey, as they often attend therapy sessions to discuss their troubles and positive experiences.
The group’s success can be traced back to high school when they met aged 15 in 2002. Bien-Aime revealed that Sauti Sol had been around for 20 years, and their friendship had grown stronger. He emphasized that their brotherhood is so strong that he would call a group member first if he had a problem.

Bien-Aime also highlighted the importance of staying grounded and taming egos to ensure the longevity of the group’s success. He stated that exposure to various music genres has been instrumental in expanding their thinking and pushing them to become better versions of themselves.
The group’s collaborations with other artists have also helped them expand their market, and they have never paid for collaborations with international artists. Bien-Aime says their projects are anchored on good music and friendship rather than monetary gain.
Although the group announced that they would focus on solo projects in 2021 under the label ‘Alone Together,’ they reunited in 2022 and even released a song titled ‘Lil Mama.’ Their individual projects complemented their unique styles, and their reunion was a testament to their strong bond and brotherhood.
