The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has invited qualified teachers to apply for an online training on item writing for Competency-Based Assessment (CBA).
In a notice on September 15, KNEC said the training will run from October 12 to 30, 2026, and is open to teachers currently teaching at the Senior School and Vocational Levels.
“The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), mandated to set and maintain national examination and assessment standards at school, post-school and teacher education levels, is committed to strengthening teachers’ and teacher educators’ capacity in classroom and national assessment.
To uphold these standards and support effective evaluation of learner competencies, KNEC invites qualified teachers teaching at Senior School and Vocational Level to apply for an online Training,” read part of the statement.
Participants who successfully complete the training will receive certification and may be engaged by KNEC in assessment-related activities as the need arises.
KNEC Sets Qualifications for Training
Applicants must have unquestionable integrity and an irreproachable professional record and be qualified professionals, experts or subject specialists in the subject for which they are applying.
They must also be currently teaching the subject at Senior School or at the Vocational Level under the Stage-Based Curriculum.
Candidates must hold relevant academic and professional qualifications in their subject or learning area and be conversant with the curriculum designs for their area of specialization.
Applicants must have at least one year of teaching experience, be registered with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), and obtain a formal recommendation from the head of their institution.

How to Apply
Interested teachers must submit their applications online through the KNEC examiners portal at examinersapp.knec.ac.ke by September 30, 2026.

Teachers who have previously undergone KNEC’s training are advised not to apply, and only shortlisted applicants will be notified.
