The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has addressed concerns over delayed payments for teachers and contracted professionals who worked during the 2024 national exams.
In a directive released on Wednesday, March 12, KNEC outlined they key issues affecting payments, providing solutions to ensure teachers receive their money.

According to KNEC, several factors have contributed to the delay in disbursing payments including cases where the name registered in the CP2 portal does not match the M-Pesa name used for payment.
Additionally, the council indicated that some teachers failed to provide their correct identification details.

In some cases, the attendance registers were either not submitted or lacked official stamps and signatures according to the national examination council.
Also, some contracted professionals who worked were not reflected in the CP2 portal.

KNEC has also stated that slow responses to KNEC requests for data verification has also contributed to payment delays to the teachers.

What Teachers Need to Do
Consequently, KNEC has advised teachers, and other contracted professionals do the following.
Teachers have been advised to correct their personal details in the portal.
“Teachers should create a new CP2 account with an M-Pesa number that matches their ID details,” indicated the council.
Further, they should update their ID and teachers service Commission (TSC) Numbers. This can be done by logging into the CP2 portal and updating any missing or incorrect data.
Also, they should confirm that their centre managers verified, stamped, and submitted attendance registers to the Sub-County Director of Education (SCDE) for onward transmission to KNEC.
Affected teachers should contact their Sub County Director of Education (SCDE) and provide details such as the year they worked, the exam center code, and their role in the assessment and in turn, schools and SCDEs must respond quickly to KNEC’s requests for accurate information to facilitate payments.
