The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has launched a new upgrade programme to help teachers advance to the Diploma level.
In a statement issued on August 9, 2025, KUCCPS announced that the initiative aims to equip educators with the necessary skills to implement Kenya’s Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and address the shortage of well-trained teachers, particularly at the lower levels of education.
The programme targets teachers holding P1 or Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) certificates, offering them a pathway to earn the Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE).
“KUCCPS is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for teachers with P1 or ECDE certificates to upgrade their qualifications to Diploma level,” the statement read.
The initial submission deadline is August 20, 2025.
KUCCPS Announces Teacher Upgrade Training
This upgrade programme is the latest addition to KUCCPS’s student placement offerings as it continues to widen access to higher education and training for Kenyans.
It follows the successful rollout of the Kenya School of Law’s Diploma in Law (Paralegal Studies) on the KUCCPS application system, which this year attracted more than 800 applications for just 500 available slots.
KUCCPS has opened its online placement application system for qualified teachers to apply for the Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE).

Who Qualifies for Training
The programme targets teachers with relevant certificate qualifications, who will be required to select their preferred Teacher Training College (TTC).
“The upgrade programme will ensure that there are no shortages of teachers who are well prepared to deliver the Competency Based Curriculum, especially at
the lower levels of learning,” said KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer Dr. Agnes Mercy Wahome.
“KUCCPS encourages all eligible teachers to seize the opportunity to enhance their qualifications and invest in the future of Kenya’s education system.”
