Maliku Girls’ High School is a public girls’ secondary school located in Katulani Sub-County, Kitui Rural Constituency, Kitui County, and is categorized as a Category 2 (C2) institution under the new Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum.

The school was established in 1984 as a public, all-girls boarding school.

The school has a history as a powerhouse in regional sports, including active participation in the Kitui Open Tournament in Rugby Sevens.

History of Maliku Girls’ Secondary School

Maliku Girls’ Secondary School was established in 1984 as a public girls’ boarding institution in the Katulani Sub-county of Kitui County, Kenya. It was founded with the mission of expanding access to quality secondary education for young women in the Eastern Region.

Although the school began on approximately 1.34 hectares of land, over the decades, it has evolved from a local school into a respected Cluster 2 (C2) public secondary institution, historically known as an Extra-County school.

Under the leadership of dedicated leaders, including the current Senior Principal, Mrs. Mutua R., and former administrators, the school has grown steadily, fostering a culture of discipline and integrity.

Several infrastructure developments have been established, including three science laboratories, a modern computer room, and improved dormitory facilities to enhance student welfare.

In 2025, Maliku Girls’ successfully transitioned into a Senior School under Kenya’s Competency-Based Education (CBE) framework.

As of 2026, the school offers diverse academic pathways, including STEM, Social Sciences, and Arts & Sports Science, ensuring students are prepared for the evolving global landscape.

Performance and Enrollment

Maliku Girls’ Secondary School has maintained a steady student population of approximately 430 learners, all enrolled in its boarding program.

In line with national education reforms, Maliku Girls’ is among the senior secondary schools affected by the full rollout of the CBE curriculum. The school is scheduled to admit its first cohort of Grade 10 students in January 2026.

In the 2024 KCSE results, the school recorded a mean score of 4.7.

School Fees

The government issued a directive setting the maximum annual school fees parents must pay.

Under the new Competency-Based Education (CBE) guidelines for senior secondary schools introduced by the Ministry of Education in 2025, schools were grouped into four clusters.
