The Ministry of Education has announced the official school opening dates for the 2024 academic year.
This was through a statement posted on the ministry’s official X account signed by Cabinet Secretary for Education, Ezekiel Machogu.
The statement began with season’s greetings, wishing all learners, parents and guardians a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year 2024.
Further, CS Machogu urged parents to protect learners during the festive season emphasizing on the fight against drug abuse.
“I wish to urge parents and guardians to exercise their utmost parental responsibility to appropriately guide their children on ways to effectively navigate the negative temptations that come with the festive season.
Particularly, parents must caution their children against the dangers of drug and substance abuse that are most prevalent in some parts of the country,” the statement read in part.
Further, parents and guardians were advised to embark on the task of preparing learners to ensure they are ready for the 2024 School Calendar.
As such, CS Machogu noted that Early Childhood Development, Primary and Secondary schools will open for the First Term on January 8th, 2024.
However, Form One students will report to their new institutions on January 15th, 2024.

“It is instructive that Early Childhood Development, Primary and Secondary schools will open for commencement of the First Term studies on January 8th, 2024, except for Form One students who will report to their new institutions on January 15th, 2024,” the statement directed.
Resumption Dates for Ministry Officials
Additionally, the ministry noted the reporting dates for field officers who are meant to assist parents on matters regarding the 2024 school calendar.
“All field officers of the Ministry of Education have been advised to report to their duty stations on all working days to assist parents with necessary preparations regarding the 2024 School Calendar,” CS Machogu added.
The Ministry of Education further acknowledged the support by the government and for their overwhelming support to the education sector in 2023.
According to the CS, the aid enabled the education overseer to stay on a firm trajectory during the robust rollout of various reforms in line with the recommendations of the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms Report.

“The Ministry of Education wishes to express the Government’s unwavering commitment to promoting access to education at all levels and providing financial support to all deserving learners at all levels in the spirit of leaving no one behind,” the presser concluded.
Announcements of Form One placements
Notably, the Ministry of Education recently announced how to access the placement results.
Candidates who sat for the 2023 KCPE examinations were directed to access placement results through the Ministry of Education website.
On the Ministry’s website, under the Form One placements category, parents and learners will be directed to the Form One selection page, where they can access the placement results.
Likewise, the results can also be accessed directly through the Kenya Education Management Information System (KEMIS).
