The Public Service Commission is pushing for funding to recruit 1,000 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) trainers.
PSC chair Amb. Anthony Muchiri wants the National Assembly’s Labour Committee to prioritize funding for the recruitment process.
The recruitment of TVET tutors was transferred from the Ministry of Education to PSC.
Speaking during the 2023 Budget Policy Statement presentation to the Committee, the PSC Chair said that hiring tutors for TVETS institutions will help in bridging the existing gap between tutor-student ratio.

Muchiri said having enough TVET trainers, will ensure that the youth primarily benefit by acquiring technical skills that can guarantee self employment.
The government plans to hire a total of 1,000 tutors to be deployed across the 144 TVET schools.
Some 887 tutors will be deployed to Technical Training Institutes (TTIs), 79 to national polytechnics, and 34 to special needs institutes.
The initial plan was to hire 3,000 tutors to bridge the gap that is currently at 6,500 trainers.
