Tangaza University, a Kenyan institution located in Lang’ata, Nairobi, officially became a fully-fledged university on May 2, 2024.

It was granted a charter by the President of Kenya, Dr. William Ruto, and its juridical status by His Grace Archbishop Philip Anyolo.

The Theological Centre of Religious opened its doors to the first group of students on 25 August 1986, with 20 students hailing from seven countries and three religious congregations: the Consolata Fathers, the Salesians of Don Bosco, and the Congregation of the Holy Spirit.

On 30 October 1987, the college was formally inaugurated in the presence of the Pro-Nuncio and blessed by His Eminence Maurice Cardinal Otunga, Archbishop of Nairobi.

Since then, enrollment has continued to grow steadily. By the academic year 2008-2009, the student population had reached 1,206, with 436 students studying in the School of Theology.

On 3 November 1992, the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) received its charter from the President of Kenya, officially recognising Tangaza University College as a constituent college of CUEA.

This move allowed Tangaza to remain administratively independent but academically integrated with the university.
