Issa Juma Boy is a Kenyan politician and the current Senator for Kwale County under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.
Early life and education
Issa Juma Boy was born in 1962 in Mombasa, where he spent his formative years immersed in the rich cultural and political environment of the region.
His elder brother, the late Boy Juma Boy, would later become a prominent political figure, serving as Senator for Kwale County.
He began his education at the Aga Khan Primary School, Mombasa, completing his Certificate of Primary Education (CPE) in 1975.
He then proceeded to Aga Khan Secondary School, where he undertook his secondary studies and sat for the East African Certificate of Education (EACE) examinations, which he successfully completed in 1979.
After completing his secondary education, Issa set his sights on higher learning abroad. In 1983, he enrolled at Jabalpur University in India to pursue studies in commerce.
His dedication culminated in 1986 when he graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) degree.

After completing his studies and returning to Kenya in 1986, Issa Juma Boy embarked on a career in business, establishing himself as a prominent entrepreneur within the coastal region.
In 1987, Issa began working in the clearing and forwarding industry, a vital sector for Mombasa, which serves as the gateway for much of Kenya’s and East Africa’s imports and exports.
Building on his experience in clearing and forwarding, Issa expanded into the automobile sector, dealing in car sales.
Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Issa continued to grow his businesses while remaining closely connected to his community.
His commercial activities provided employment opportunities and contributed to the local economy, earning him recognition as both a businessman and a community leader.

Political Career
Issa Juma Boy’s political career began in 2017, following the death of his elder brother, the late Boy Juma Boy, who had served as Senator for Kwale County.
In the wake of this loss, his family and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leadership rallied behind Issa to carry on his brother’s legacy of representing the people of Kwale.
Running on the ODM ticket during the August 2017 general election, Issa secured a decisive victory and was elected as Senator for the county.
During his first term, he served on several Senate committees, including the Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, the Committee on Land, Environment and Natural Resources, and the Committee on Information, Communication and Technology (ICT).
In 2022, Issa sought re-election for a second term, once again running under the ODM banner.
His track record of service and advocacy resonated with voters, and he was successfully re-elected.
In February 2025, his growing influence was recognized when he was appointed Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Trade, Industrialization, and Tourism.
In this capacity, he took on a leadership role in shaping policies aimed at boosting Kenya’s industrial growth, trade facilitation, and tourism development.
Alongside this position, he continues to serve as a member of other key Senate committees, including the ICT Committee, the Liaison Committee, and the Committee on Delegated Legislation, where he plays an integral role in legislative oversight and coordination.
In January 2024, he publicly apologized to ODM supporters after briefly aligning with the Kenya Kwanza administration, led by President William Ruto.
During an ODM rally, he admitted to being misled into supporting the rival coalition and declared his renewed commitment to ODM and its leader, Raila Odinga, symbolically stating that he had “returned home” to the party.
