Lupita Nyong’o Breaks Up with 52-Year-Old Boyfriend

Hollywood star Lupita Nyong’o has announced her painful relationship breakup with American Television host Selema Masekela.

While making the announcement on Thursday evening, the celebrated Kenyan Actress published a long post on her Instagram’s account giving reasons for the painful split.

“There are many more important things going on in the world right now, and my thoughts are with those who are deeply suffering.

At this moment, it is necessary for me to share a personal truth and publicly dissociate myself from someone I can no longer trust,” read part of her post.

While publicly dissociating herself with Masekela, Lupita hinted deception as cause of the split between her and his 52-year-old boyfriend.

Lupita spills the beans 

On the other hand, the actress went ahead to shed more light on the sudden separation and the challenges she is facing handling the breakup.

“I find myself in a season of heartbreak because of a love suddenly and devastatingly extinguished by deception.

I am tempted to run into the shadows and hide, only to return to the light when I have regained my strength enough for me to say, “Whatever, my life is better this way.” read her post in part.

Similarly, Lupita acknowledged that sharing the breakup news would have been useful to someone experiencing breakup.

Likewise, the actress added, “I share this to keep it? and hoping that the knowledge of my experience might be useful to someone else out there experiencing the grip of heartbreak who is poised to try and escape from the pain and miss out on the wisdom that comes from it. Let’s face our pain so we don’t spread it.”

The actress has further deleted her posts with Masekela.

Masekela Turning 52

At the same time, Lupita celebrated Masekela Selema’s birthday in late August this year when he turned 52.

The actress shared snippets of their moments together in a beautiful video montage.

During Masekela’s birthday, Lupita narrated how her then partner lights up her days.

“And then… the Universe saw it fit to bring this Sunshine Human into my orbit, and this day marks his introduction to life,” read part of her post.

“Every day is full of good energy and reasons to dance with @selema as my favourite playmate. Happy Birthday, mi amor!” she added.

Selema swiftly responded by saying he is the luckiest man alive, accompanying his comment with red heart emojis.

“…sneaky, mi amor. luckiest man alive. My heart is smiling wide,” he wrote.

Lupita Introduces Masekela

The duo first came to lame light in December 2022 when Lupita shared their cute video montage. 

In the video, set to the song The King’s Affirmation, the couple was snapping along while changing into various outfits, from swimwear to formal attire.

“We just click!” wrote Lupita. Selema also shared a post describing the award-winning actress as his ‘whole and actual love.”

Selema is yet to speak on their breakup.
