Miles, the 24-year-old boda boda operator from Muhoroni, Kenya, passed away on March 21, 2023, after a battle with soft tissue sarcoma, a type of cancer that starts in the body’s soft tissues.
Miles had been diagnosed with the disease in March 2022 and received treatment, including amputation of his left arm, before being informed that cancer had spread to other parts of his body.
Miles remained positive and focused on providing for his young family despite his illness. However, the disease made it impossible for him to continue working as a boda boda operator, leaving him unable to support his family financially.
He was forced to drop out of university due to financial challenges, and he had hoped to provide a better life for his daughter, Britney Dova, who had not yet started school.
In a heartbreaking message to Safaricom, a leading telecommunications company in Kenya, Miles pleaded for them to educate his daughter after his death. He had attempted to save money for his family’s future, but recurrent medical bills depleted the savings.

Miles’ case was complicated by the late detection of cancer and the delayed amputation of his left arm. Despite undergoing treatment, Miles’ case reached a point where the hospital could do nothing more for him, and he was discharged from the hospital to receive palliative care at home.
He was a beloved community member, and his death has left many grieving. Divinah Ogari, who was instrumental in running fundraisers for his treatment, expressed her sorrow at Miles’ passing, stating that it had broken her. Miles’ wife confirmed that he would be buried in his home in Yala Gem.
Miles’ death is a tragic reminder of the devastating impact that cancer can have on individuals and their families. His story highlights the importance of early detection and access to affordable healthcare, especially in low-income communities with limited access to medical resources.
Miles was a man full of potential, intelligence, and zeal for life, but his dreams were cut short by his illness. May his soul rest in peace, and may his daughter find comfort in the memories of her loving father.
