Kibwezi West Member of Parliament (MP) Eckomas Mutuse Mwengi will be the mover of the impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
In a post, Mutuse said he will be tabling the motion as a citizen and as provided for in the Constitution.
The MP explained that the framers of the Constitution intended for every provision to be tested. Mutuse said the evidence they will table will shock Kenyans.
“That’s why, this afternoon, as part of my civic duty as a citizen and also as part of my role as MP, I will give notice of motion for the removal of the Deputy President from office, by impeachment, pursuant to Articles 150 and 145 of our Constitution,” Mutuse stated.
Mutuse is a first-time MP, having been elected in the 2022 elections on a Maendeleo Chap Chap party ticket.
He clinched the seat after garnering 30,821 votes, defeating his closest competitor James Mbaluka of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), who received 20,793 votes.
Juliana Kisimbi of the Democratic Party came third with 727 votes, while Ngomeli Oscar of the Wiper Democratic Movement garnered 628 votes.
“Campaigns are over. I will be a leader of all. We shall have inclusive and consultative leadership. I promise development-focused leadership. Your vote must have meaning by changing the standard of living in your locality,” Mutuse said after being declared the winner.
Mutuse was among the leaders appointed to spearhead the Azimio la Umoja presidential campaign in the Ukambani region, despite his party leader, Governor Alfred Mutua, supporting UDA candidate President William Ruto.
