Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua has dismissed allegations that he sacked staff from the Kalenjin Community who were working in his office.
In an interview on Monday, September 30, Gachagua listed individuals from the Kalenjin community who occupy key positions in the office of the DP.
He accused his political enemies of trying to spread rumors to create animosity between him and the Kalenjin people.
“You know those who oppose me are coming at me from all directions, trying to make me clash with the Kalenjin community, but that’s just a dream.
I’ve lived with Kalenjins for a long time. I was in President Daniel Moi’s government, and I made good friends there,” said the DP.
The DP explained that the Kalenjin people respect him because he is truthful, and they also value honesty.
Gachagua added that the Kalenjin people hate betrayal, just like the people from the Mountain, emphasizing that the rumors are as false as the accusations that he had any involvement with the Gen Z protests.
“Right now, they are spreading rumors that I have removed Kalenjins from my office. My office is full of Kalenjins, and they hold most of the important positions,” he said.
Gachagua Praised His Deputy Security Head, Personal Trainer & Driver
Gachagua noted that his Deputy Head of Security is an Assistant Superintendent of Police named Tanui, a Kalenjin.
He emphasized that Tanui is someone he trusts completely, often accompanying him on international trips.
“He even has a house in Nyeri, my home county,” Gachagua added.
The DP stated that is Sammy Chebligon from Kapsabet is his driver, whom he trusts completely and has been with for 19 years.

Gachagua said he has visited Sammy’s home and even ate ugali with mursik.
He further mentioned that his personal trainer, who always accompanies him during morning walks, is Martha Chemutai from Kericho.
Gachagua explained that Martha has helped him lose weight and stay in shape, despite his wife, Second Lady Dorcas Rigathi, questioning why he chose a female trainer.
“She is my personal trainer, and even my wife asked why I chose a female trainer instead of a male one,” he said.

Communication Director, Photographer & Personal Assistant
Additionally, the DP stated that his Director of Communication, Jeremiah Kiplagat, is a Kalenjin, while his personal assistant, Towet from Bomet, is responsible for deciding who can access his office and for planning his travels.
He also highlighted that Ivy Chelimo, the lady who coined the nickname “Riggy G,” is from Eldoret and works as a strategic communication advisor in his office.
He clarified that his personal photographer is from Baringo, as is his social media manager, Malema.
“The most critical positions personal assistant, Deputy Head of Security, personal trainer, personal photographer, Director of Communication, strategic communication advisor, are held by Kalenjins because they are very loyal. That’s why I am surrounded by them everywhere,” he said.
Office Pending Bills
Gachagua further revealed that he inherited pending bills amounting to nearly Ksh900 million from President William Ruto’s team.
“We inherited a lot of debt in this office, and we have forwarded them to the Treasury,” he said.
Gachagua spoke on the eve of his impeachment motion, passionately pleading lawmakers from the Rift Valley not to be part of the scheme to oust him.
However, the embattled DP said he was ready for whichever outcome.
