The General Council of the Comboni Missionaries has appointed Kenyan Father Austine Radol Odhiambo as the new Vice Superior General, effective April 1, 2025.
According to a notice from the Catholic Information Service for Africa in Rome, the appointment follows the election of Father Luigi Fernando Codianni as Superior General on February 21, 2025.

The Sunday, March 31, notice explained that Father Luigi is succeeding Ethiopian Bishop Tesfaye Tadesse Gebresilasie, who was ordained Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Addis Ababa on February 2, 2025.
“The Council expresses its gratitude to Fr Radol for his willingness to take on this assignment,” read the communiqué sent to all superiors of the Comboni provinces.

Who is Kenyan Priest Austine Radol
Father Radol was born on November 27, 1972, in Kobong Sub-Location, Uyoma Central, Rarieda Constituency in Siaya County, Kenya.

He began his religious journey with his first profession on May 8, 1999, in Namugongo, Uganda.
Later, he pursued theological studies in Innsbruck, Austria, from 1999 to 2004 and was ordained a priest on August 19, 2004, at St. Theresa’s Cathedral in the Catholic Archdiocese of Kisumu, Kenya.
Additionally, his pastoral mission commenced in Eritrea in November 2004.
However, during a visit home in June 2007, he was barred from returning due to governmental restrictions on foreign missionaries, leading to his official expulsion in November 2007.
Subsequently, from February 2008 to June 2009, Fr. Radol studied Arabic in Cairo, Egypt.
Unable to resume his mission in Eritrea, he was reassigned to Kenya, focusing on missionary animation and vocational promotion.
Father Radol’s appointment will take effect on April 1, 2025, and will continue until the conclusion of the current administration’s term, which ends with the 20th General Chapter in 2028.
