Nelson Havi was born and raised in Kakamega County.
He lost his dad in 1992 and was raised by his mother, Grace Obwamo who is currently a retired teacher.

Nelson Havi Educational Background
Havi attended Nangili Primary School before proceeding to Musingu High School.
He later joined the University of Nairobi where he successfully pursued a Bachelor of Law degree.

He holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) degree from the University of London and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb).
Havi is actively involved in various other initiatives aimed at promoting justice and human rights in Kenya.
Career
Havi worked in a few legal firms after graduating before establishing his own private law firm, Havi & Company Advocates.
They offer a variety of services to their clients, such as arbitration, corporate finance advisory services, intellectual property rights and commercial litigation and debt collection.
Havi and his firm have handled numerous landmarks and reported cases at the High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.
In September 2024, the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) Havi & Company Advocates to represent it in a case against businessman and media owner Samuel Kamau Macharia (SK Macharia) over the alleged withdrawal of Sh400 million from Directline Assurance Company.
In February 2020, Havin contested for the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) the presidential seat.
He against rivals including Charles Kanjama, a prominent city lawyer to become 49th President of LSK.
He held the position up to March 2022 and was succeeded by Eric Theuri.
Havi and Politics
Havi has also been vocal about the political issues and the governance structure of the country.
He was one of the lead lawyers in the petition filed against the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) that was later declared unconstitutional.
In November 2021, Havi joined President William Ruto’s UDA party after announcing his interest in the Westlands parliamentary seat.
He lost to Tim Wanyonyi of ODM and conceded two days before the official announcements.
Regarding the Gen Z protests, Havi asked Kenyans to blame MPs for supporting the Finance Bill 2024 and not the President.
In February 2023, Ruto appointed him as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors at the Retirement Benefits Authority.
Family
He is married to Fellicine Oriri who is also a lawyer, and they are blessed with three children, two daughters and a son.
In September 2020, Havi was initiated into the Maragoli Council of Elders, Omwimili wa Balagoli.
