William Kamket Kassait is a prominent politician in the Rift Valley region who currently serves as the Member of Parliament for Tiaty Constituency.
He is well known for his outspoken nature, especially on matters concerning banditry. Kamket has been vocal in defending the Pokot community amid recurring clashes between pastoralist groups involved in banditry.
Career of William Kamket
He joined politics in 2013 when he was first elected as the Speaker of the Baringo County Assembly, a position he held until 2017. In the 2017 general elections, Kamket successfully vied for the Tiaty parliamentary seat, winning his first term as Member of Parliament.
He was re-elected in the 2022 general elections on a KANU ticket as part of the Azimio la Umoja coalition, previously led by the late former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga.
However, shortly after William Ruto was declared President, Kamket defected from Azimio to the Kenya Kwanza administration, where he continues to support its policies to this day.
In the National Assembly, the Tiaty MP serves on the Constitutional Implementation Oversight Committee, where he is the Vice Chair.
Before joining politics, William Kamket served as an Editor at the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).
He also worked as a Hansard Reporter at the Kenya National Assembly from 2004 to 2007. Prior to that, Kamket was a Correspondent for The EastAfrican from 2000 to 2002.
Earlier in his career, he served as a Hansard Reporter at the Kenya National Assembly from 1997 to 1998 and as a Reporter for Nation Newspapers from 1996 to 1997.
Education Background
In terms of his educational background, Kamket holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda (1999–2002).
He also holds a Diploma in Mass Communication from the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (1993–1996).
Family
William Kamket is married to Immaculate Kassait, who is the current head of the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) in Kenya. Details about their children are unknown, as they have been kept out of the public limelight.
One of their children, Bill Ballot Kassait Jnr. died on March 17, 2026, with President William Ruto sending condolences to the family.
