Makueni County has public and private health facilities approved to provide services under the Social Health Authority (SHA), ranging from Level 5 hospitals to medical, dental, and specialized outpatient clinics.
The facilities are distributed across the county and include Makueni County Referral Hospital, Tawa Sub-County Hospital, Kisau Sub-County Hospital, Matiliku Sub-County Hospital, and Sultan Hamud Sub-County Hospital, as well as private hospitals, nursing homes, medical centers, and clinics.
As of July 31, 2026, 32,180,494 Kenyans had registered with SHA, representing 67.7 percent of the national population, according to SHA chief executive officer Mercy Mwangangi.
However, only about five million registered members were actively contributing to the scheme at the time.
During a joint retreat involving the Health Committee, SHA and the Digital Health Agency (DHA), Health Committee Chairperson Dr James Nyikal emphasized that the government’s focus should shift from registration to maintaining active membership.
“Registration is not enough. We should put more energy into ensuring that more people are paying for health insurance,” the Health Committee Chairperson said.
Public Health Facilities
The list of SHA-approved public facilities in Makueni includes five government-operated Level 4 hospitals.
These include Makueni County Referral Hospital, Tawa Sub-County Hospital, Kisau Sub-County Hospital, Matiliku Sub-County Hospital and Sultan Hamud Sub-County Hospital.
KMPDC also lists Makueni County Referral Hospital as one of the approved medical internship centers in Kenya.

Makueni County Private Hospitals
Several private facilities in the county are also listed among the SHA-approved providers.
At Level 5, the list includes Rapha Makueni Nursing Home.
Level 4 private hospitals are Mulatya Memorial Hospital, Makindu Medical Center, Kilome MNH Hospital, The Makueni Doctors Plaza Limited, Royalstar Family Hospital Limited and Bestcare Hospital Limited.
Level 3A and 3B Facilities
Level 3B facilities listed are Tumaini Maternity & Nursing Home, Dwa Health Center, Mt. Zion Community Health Clinic, Wenisa Medical Centre-Nunguni, and Menorah Medical Institute K Limited.
On the other hand, Level 3A facilities include Bliss Healthcare Ltd Wote, Neo-Solutions Medical Center, Capital Memorial Nursing Home, Kilome MNH Hospital – Kambu Satellite, Kilome MNH Hospital – Matiliku Satellite, and Wenisa Medical Center.
Other facilities are Onewaywise Health Services Limited, Edelpert Medical Center, Silmer Community Medical Center, Othofix Orthopedic and Trauma Center Limited, Equity Afia Wote, St. Peters Optical & Dental Outpatient Services, Equity Afia Medical Center Emali, and Universal Family Health Services Limited – Mukuyuni Clinic.

Level 2 Medical Clinics
The medical clinics include Nyumbani Afya Medical Clinic, St. Mary’s Medical and X-Ray Center, Bethany Health Services, Kimakiu Healthcare Services Dispensary, Nunguni Medical Clinic, Cool Life Medical Clinic, Machinery Healthcare Center, Eagle Healthcare Solutions, Kisayani Medical Clinic, Eunik Highway Medical Clinic, Kavingoni Medical Clinic, St Martin Health Care Services, Emali Health Services, and Enzai Afya Medical Clinic.
Additionally, the county has Barazani Medical Center, Bliss Healthcare Limited Emali, Milah Medical Center, Kiundwani Medical Clinic, Beko Medical Center, Stanley Health Services, Nestarcare Medical Clinic, Balm Gilead Medical Center, Mumwimumu Medical Services, Vima Royal Healthcare, Kasanga Medical Clinic, and Lukenya University Health Center,
Others include Khesed Chen Clinic, Blossom’s Highview Medical Clinic, Subati Kibwezi Healthcare, Wikwatyo Medical Center, Kilome MNH Hospital-Kilome Satellite, Terriann Medical Clinic, F.Ngulukyo Medical Clinic, Ilatu Medical Clinic, Kambu Ivengoni Medical Clinic, Posha Medicina, and Antokim Medicare.
Dental and Eye Clinics
The list also includes facilities providing dental and eye-related outpatient services, including St. Peters Optical & Dental Outpatient Services, Dr. Teeth Rongai Dental Care Limited – Makueni, Shekinah Dental Clinic, and Blissdent Dental Services.
