Kisii County residents registered under the Social Health Authority (SHA) framework can seek healthcare services from referral hospitals, sub-county facilities, diagnostic centers, specialist hospitals, maternity homes, and community-based medical centers in the county.
Public and private institutions licensed by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) ensure residents in the county receive appropriate medical attention.
During a development tour of Kisii in April, President William Ruto urged residents, who had not enrolled in SHA, to register,
President Ruto emphasized that registered residents allow the government to plan the improvement of the health sector effectively.
“When you register for SHA, the government is in a better position to plan the medical personnel to recruit and the equipment to place in various facilities,” William Ruto noted.
Private Healthcare Facilities in Kisii County
According to the current SHA registry, the highest level of care available in Kisii County is Level 5, making it one of the better-equipped counties in western Kenya under the SHA-approved provider network.
Under the Level 5 public facilities, Kisii County has Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital and Kenyenya Sub-County Hospital and Marani Sub-County Referral Hospital as Level 4 public facilities under the framework.
In addition to the public referral hospital, the county hosts several private Level 5 facilities, specialist hospitals, diagnostic centers, cancer treatment units, eye hospitals, and maternity facilities.
Private Level 5 hospitals approved by SHA include Nyangena Hospital Ltd, Bosongo Medical Center, Ram Hospital Ltd Kisii, Oasis Specialist Hospital and Lenmek Hospital.

According to the SHA facility registry, Kisii County has several facilities that are categorized as Level 4 private facilities.
The facilities include eye treatment centers, clinics, hospitals, maternity and nursing homes, according to the health framework registry.
