Former United States President Donald Trump on Monday 15th July 2024 picked U.S Sen. JD Vance of Ohio to be his running mate as he seeks to return to office in November 2024.
After considering around dozen running mates, Trump selected Vance in the final weeks where the list of prospects narrowed, with North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum and Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida among the other finalists.
“After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio,” Trump posted on Truth Social.

The Yale Law School graduate and investment banker first rose to national prominence in 2016 when he wrote a popular book called “Hillbilly Elegy” about growing up in poor family that also served as a sort of sociological examination of white working-class Americans.
The book was published in the summer before Mr. Trump’s election in 2016, and many readers used it as a guide after his victory to better understand Mr. Trump’s support among white working-class neighborhoods.
The book, which received social and historical criticism, was made into a film in 2020.
