Britam Asset Managers (Kenya), a subsidiary operating under the Britam Holdings Limited group, has appointed a new Chairperson, effective July 3, 2026, as the existing chair steps down from her role.
In a statement on July 22, Britam Asset Managers confirmed the the appointment of FCPA Dr. Joe Muchekehu as its new Chairperson, replacing Dr. Herta von Stiegel, who has retired from the Board.
“The Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of FCPA Dr. Joe Muchekehu as Chairperson of Britam Asset Managers (Kenya) Limited, with effect from 3rd July 2026,” the statement read in part.

According to the company, Joe Muchekehu has more than 50 years of experience in accounting, auditing, consulting, and financial management.
He has also contributed to the growth of the accountancy profession across East Africa.

“Muchekehu has over 50 years’ experience in accounting, auditing, consulting, and financial management, and has been instrumental in the development of the accountancy profession in East Africa,” they noted.
Additionally, he previously served as Chairperson of the Council of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK). He was also the Founding Chairperson and Trustee of KCA University.
Dr. Joe Muchekehu was the first country representative on the International Assembly of Chartered Certified Accountants, marking a key milestone in his professional career.
In addition to his new role, he serves on the boards of Britam South Sudan and Continental Reinsurance (Kenya) Limited.
Why Britam Asset Managers Chair Herta von Stiegel Stepped Down
Britam said Dr. von Stiegel retired from the Board as the company expands into alternative investments.
This move was aimed at avoiding potential conflicts of interest due to her role as Founder and CEO of Arya Capital Group Limited, in line with corporate governance standards.

“As Britam Asset Managers (Kenya) Limited expands its focus to include alternative investments, Dr. Herta von Stiegel, who is also the Founder and CEO of Arya Capital Group Limited, retires from the Board to avoid any potential conflict of interest, in keeping with the highest standards of corporate governance,” the company stated.
The company further explained that the exiting Chairperson and Independent Non-Executive Director of Britam Asset Managers (Kenya) joined the Board in 2018 and became Chairperson in 2020.
Additionally, they wished Dr. von Stiegel success in her future endeavors and said they look forward to working with her in other capacities.
