The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development through the State Department for Crop Development has called for applications for the Empowering Novel Agribusiness-Led Employment (ENABLE) youth Kenya program.
In an advert on Tuesday, September 3, the department said the program aims at contributing to job creation, food security and nutrition, income generation and improved livelihoods for youths in both Urban and rural areas.
“ENABLE Youth Kenya Program is currently seeking suitable Agripreneurs as incubatees to be trained and empowered within the supported value chains via a countrywide recruitment exercise. Agribusiness ideas must be innovative and novel,” read part of the advert.
“The Program focuses on the entire Agriculture Value Chain from production, processing, value addition: input supplies and marketing in the following specific values chains targeted; Poultry, Vegetables, Dairy, Beef, Pasture, Mushroom, Pig, and Fish.”
The recruitment will target two categories: standard incubators and accelerator incubators.
Youth Incubatee Applications
According to the announcement, youth agripreneurs to be recruited as an incubatee into business should have an annual turnover of less than Ksh.500,000.
Moreover, the incubatee must be willing and available to be capacity built and/or funded to attain economic viability.
Also, the standard incubatees business should have been in operation for at least twelve months.
In addition, this category will undergo incubation and training for a period of 3 -6 months and must be a holder of a Diploma/Degree from a recognized institution.

Accelerated Incubatee
This is for youth agripreneurs who have been actively running an agribusiness venture with an annual turnover of above Ksh.500,000.
According to the notice, the incubatee must be willing and available to be capacity built and/or funded to upscale their businesses.
Also, the accelerator incubatee’s business should have been in operation for a period exceeding twelve months and will undergo incubation and training for a period not exceeding month.
They must be a holder of a Certificate/Diploma/Degree from a Recognized Institution.
Requirements for Application
Applicants must be Kenyan citizens, aged between 18-35 years, and possess a National ID.
They are required to submit relevant educational certificates based on the incubation category (Standard/Accelerator), along with a KRA PIN Certificate and a certificate from an approved Credit Reference Bureau.
Additionally, applicants will need to submit a concise one-page business proposal upon admission.
This proposal should demonstrate an innovative and novel business idea, including access to business premises, office space, and land for production where applicable.
It should also show the adaptability of the selected value chain to the project location, availability of a market for the product/service within the targeted value chains, prevailing risks and mitigation strategies, and the availability of necessary licenses and permits.
Projects focused on value addition, aggregation, marketing, agricultural services, and distribution will receive priority consideration.
