The Board of Directors of Britam Holdings Plc has announced the appointed Hilda Njeru as the Director for Legal and Group Company Secretary.
In a notice on December 15, 2023, Britam Chairman Kuria Muchiru said the comapny picked Hilda Njeru after a competitive interview process.
At the same time, Muchiru noted that the new director is set to start performing her duties at the insurer with immediate effect.
In March 2023 Britam’s board of directors had announced the appointment of Hilda Njeru as the acting Director of Legal and Company Secretary.

Hilda Njeru Past Experience
Hilda is a financial services executive with over 16 years of experience in regulatory affairs and corporate governance leadership.
Before joining Britam in September 2022, she was the Company Secretary and General Manager in charge of Legal, Risk and Compliance at the Central Depository & Settlement Corporation Limited (CDSC).
She has also worked with the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) where she gained expertise in capital markets matters.
Hilda was involved extensively in the implementation of the 2014- 2023 Capital Markets Master Plan (CMMP) and has been recognized for her input in the implementation of the CMMP.
“I was recently recognized by the Capital Markets Authority for the work we did under the Regional and International Rankings Working Group for the 10yr Capital Markets Master Plan 2014-2023,” Hilda noted.
“It was a gratifying assignment that made significant contributions to the positioning of Kenya’s domestic capital markets as the premier choice for investors and FDI,” she added.
Hilda was also a member of the EAC Capital Markets, Insurance and Pensions Committee (CMIPC) Technical Working Group in Arusha.
Notably, the Technical Working Group established the legal framework for the standardization of practices in the EAC Member States’ financial services sectors.

Between 2007 to 2012, Hilda worked at Barclays Bank of Kenya (now Absa Bank).
Education
Hilda holds an MSc in International Business Administration from the University of London as well as a Master of Laws, LL.M, and a Bachelor of Laws degree, LL. B from the University of Nairobi.
Further, Hilda is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, a certified public accountant, CPA (K), a certified secretary, CPS (K), and an accredited Governance Auditor.
Additionally, she is a Rotarian and a member of the Women on Boards Network.
