A Kenyan citizen has written an open letter to President William Ruto, formally applying for the recently vacated position of Cabinet Secretary for Health.
This unprecedented appeal follows President Ruto’s decision to dismiss all cabinet secretaries in response to widespread protests across the nation.
Kufufule Kumotole’s letter, addressed to the President and marked as “REF: APPLICATION FOR CS HEALTH,” begins with an acknowledgment of the recent termination of Susan Nakhumicha, the former Cabinet Secretary for Health.
“I am aware that you have just fired Susan Nakhumicha,” Kumotole’s letter reads in part.
Open Letter to Ruto
Kufufule who called himself a qualified medic in the letter, emphasized his readiness to tackle pressing issues within the healthcare sector, particularly those concerning interns, clinical officers, and other healthcare workers.
“Now that we know there is a vacancy, please allow me, a medic with real certificates, to handle the matter of interns, Clinical Officers, and all issues and all health care workers,” the letter continues.
In a candid admission of his current financial status, Dr. Kumotole states, “I don’t have money to bribe for this job, as I am currently jobless. Your excellence.”
This direct and unembellished application comes at a critical time for Kenya, as the nation grapples with protests.

Dismissal of Cabinet Secretaries
In an unprecedented move, President William Ruto dissolved his Cabinet on July 11, 2024, following sustained protests by Gen Z activists across the country.
