The National Youth Service (NYS) has announced a nationwide recruitment exercise for volunteer servicemen and servicewomen across Kenya.

The announcement for the volunteers, both men and women, was made by NYS on March 3, 2026.

According to the NYS, the recruitment will be conducted throughout the country from March 16 to March 21, 2026.

“A nationwide recruitment exercise for NYS volunteers (male and female) will be conducted throughout the Republic from Monday, 16th March 2026 to Saturday, 21st March 2026, starting at 8:00 a.m. daily, in accordance with the schedule and requirements outlined below,” part of the statement read.

NYS Requirements for Prospective Applicants

NYS also set out the requirements for all applicants seeking the position, including being a Kenyan citizen and a resident of the respective Sub-County of recruitment.

Applicants should be of legal age and currently in the age range between 18 and 24 years at the time of application.

A minimum mean grade of D (Plain) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) will be required during the process.

All applicants will be required to produce the original National Identity Card (ID) and academic certificates and submit one set of photocopies at the recruitment center.

A certificate of good conduct and a valid police clearance certificate will also be among the requirements checked during the recruitment.

Volunteer applicants should be ready and willing to undergo a medical examination during and after the recruitment exercise.

Readiness to offer voluntary service to the Nation in any part of the Republic of Kenya and readiness to undergo Basic Paramilitary Training are also requirements.

“Successful candidates will report to the NYS Paramilitary Academy, Gilgil, or NYS Technical Training Institute (NYSTTI), Naivasha, on dates and times specified in their respective calling letters,” the statement read.

They will be expected to be able to withstand all the physical exercises that will be done during the recruitment process.

Applicants with demonstrated sports skills and talents will have an added advantage, according to the NYS.

NYS also issued a warning against any form of corruption, adding that canvassing or offering monetary or other inducements for admission is an offence that may result in automatic disqualification and/or prosecution.

Any misconduct or corruption during the recruitment process should be reported immediately to the Commandant General at the telephone number 020-2400129, as provided by the NYS.
