The Public Service Commission (PSC) has begun redeploying hundreds of former National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) employees who were not absorbed into the Social Health Authority (SHA).
During the meeting held on July 7, SHA and PSC assured the employees of placement across government ministries, departments and agencies.

PSC Starts Placing Former NHIF Staff in Ministries, Agencies
According to the two institutions, SHA is finalizing the recruitment of staff approved under its establishment, paving the way for former NHIF employees who were not successful in the recruitment process to be released to the PSC for redeployment.
A total of 1,158 former NHIF employees have so far been released to the commission in different phases for deployment to various ministries, departments and agencies.
Of these, 885 officers have been released in the current phase and are currently being placed across government institutions.
The PSC and SHA said they are working closely with relevant stakeholders to ensure the affected officers are deployed and onboarded without delays.

Parliament Told 922 Former NHIF Employees Will Be Redeployed
On July 6, the Ministry of Health revealed that only 815 of the 1,737 former National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) employees would be absorbed into the Social Health Authority (SHA), with the rest set to be redeployed elsewhere within the public service.
Lawmakers were informed that the Public Service Commission (PSC) had approved SHA’s staffing structure, limiting its workforce to 815 employees.
Consequently, 922 former NHIF staff were not included in the new authority and were to be redeployed to other government agencies.

The Ministry further said that PSC had assumed the responsibility for former NHIF employees on November 21, 2024, before temporarily seconding them to SHA.
They explained that the arrangement would remain in place for six months or until the authority concluded its recruitment process, with former NHIF staff receiving priority for available positions if they met the required qualifications.
Additionally, the Ministry added that the law allows NHIF staff not absorbed into SHA to either retire from public service or be redeployed elsewhere.
