Twenty-five human rights associations have called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to clarify the whereabouts of content creator Billy Simani, also known as “Crazy Nairobian”.
In a press statement released on Saturday June 22, associations including the Bloggers Association of Kenya, the Law Society of Kenya, Kenya Medical Association, Defenders Coalition, the Independent Medical Legal Unit, and Amnesty International Kenya issued a series of urgent demands.
Reports from family and friends indicated that Simani was arrested and is currently detained by the investigative officers at an undisclosed location.

“We remind all state officers and the public that any infractions of this article, including forcibly abducting, holding persons incommunicado, or denying visitation rights, are crimes under our laws. Individual state officers can be held accountable in a court of law,” the statement reads.

Law Society of Kenya on Rex
In a seperate statement, the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) condemned the killing of Rex Kanyike Masai by police officers, calling the act “heinous and tragic.”
LSK President Faith Odhiambo expressed deep sorrow over Masai’s death and extended condolences to his family, friends, and young patriots advocating for the rule of law and constitutionalism.
“The demonstrations held on Tuesday and Thursday were largely peaceful, confirming that the protesters were neither interested nor intent on damaging property,” Odhiambo stated.

“Despite our several calls for restraint to the police, it is deeply regretful that our bare minimum demand that the police uphold constitutionalism and act within the law fell on deaf, contemptuous ears,” she added.
The society urged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to cooperate in their efforts to identify and prosecute the perpetrators within three weeks.
“We intend to ensure that these criminal elements within our police face the full force of the law,” Odhiambo asserted. “As we fulfill our statutory mandate, we urge members of the public to continue to express themselves and exercise their rights within the confines of the law.”
