Five former governors failed to turn up to witness the inauguration of their successors on Thursday August 25
In Meru former governor Kiraitu Murungi was not present to hand over the instruments of power to the new governor Kawira Mwangaza.
Kiraitu who served as the second Meru governor was floored by Mwangaza in the August 9 polls.
Mwangaza, the first female Meru governor vied on an independent ticket.
Elsewhere in Nakuru former governor Lee Kinyanjui was absent as his successor Susan Kihika took the oath of office.
Kinyanjui’s deputy Erick Korir was however present
Kinyanjui protested the election outcome, claiming massive irregularities and said he would move to court to challenge Kihika’s victory.
In Nyandarua county former governor Francis Kimemia, sent an apology letter to his successor Governor Moses Kiarie Badilisha with an excuse that was attending a burial ceremony of his relative.
Outgoing Embu governor Martin Wambora also didn’t show up for the swearing in of Governor Cecil Mbarire.
Wambora, the outgoing Council of Governors Chairman did not give a reason for skipping the ceremony
Wambora served as Embu governor for two terms
Former Kitui governor Charity Ngilu was also missing in action as Governor Julius Malombe took his oath of office.
Ngilu had supported former senator David Musila during the campaigns
Ngilu served for one term after he took over from Malombe in 2017
