Thereafter, he transitioned into politics in 2017, serving as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Mandera North under the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) until 2022.
During his parliamentary term, he was a member of both the Defence and Foreign Relations Committee and the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), contributing to national oversight and policy.
Bashir was then re-elected as a member of parliament for Mandera North in the 2022 general elections.
In the parliamentary committee, he was the Member of the Departmental Committee on Public Works, Roads & Transport.
