Catherine Omanyo is a Kenyan politician, education activist, and the county woman representative in the National Assembly (Kenya) for Busia County.
She formally joined politics in 2022, when she was elected as the county woman representative.
Omanyo was born on July 7, 1978, in Busia and was raised by a single mother.
Catherine Omanyo is also a prominent human rights advocate, focusing particularly on women’s rights, HIV awareness, and community empowerment.

Catherine Omanyo earned her Bachelor of Education (Arts) degree from the University of Nairobi, completing her studies between 1998 and 2003.
She further enhanced her leadership skills by obtaining a Leadership Certificate under the Parliamentary Leadership Development Program (PLDP) during 2004–2005, followed by another Leadership Certificate from the National Democratic Institute (NDI) in 2006.
In 2011, she was awarded a Democracy Certificate through participation in the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) in the United States.
Career life
Driven by her own experience growing up in rural Busia, Catherine Omanyo founded Imprezza Academy (later the International School for Champions), a tuition-free school serving orphaned and underprivileged children.
Between 2007 and 2011, she coordinated the British Exchange Programme, later serving as Secretary-General of the National Youth Forum – Obama Leadership in 2011–2012.
She went on to lead Kenya Women Agenda as CEO in 2018–2019 and has been the Director and Founder of Imprezza Academy from 2012 to the present.
Additionally, she served as Administrator at the Kenya National Private Security Union during 2015–2016.
In 2022, Catherine Omanyo was elected as Busia County Women Representative, where she continues to serve.
As MP, she has implemented impactful grassroots initiatives, including anti-jigger campaigns, school feeding programs, the establishment of water infrastructure, and menstrual health advocacy.
Her community work has earned her notable recognition, including the Thamani Award for Outstanding Educationalist (2025) and an honour from the Isuzu Women Council for her advocacy in gender empowerment.
